The summer between my Junior and Senior years of high school found me traipsing around Europe on $5 a day. Arriving home, I announced to my until then tolerant parents, that I would NOT be going to college. I had caught the Travel Bug. Big time.

To their credit, they didn’t panic. But they did conspire. My Mom bought a book  . . . .

. . that claimed on certain warm muggy nights you could smell the Bradenton Tropicana orange juice factory while standing on the grounds of a (incestuously small) new college in Sarasota, Florida. I was hooked.

I gave up the gypsy life for the scent of freshly squished oranges. Hindsight being what it is, it was probably a good move for me. I wish I had taken better advantage of the experience but that’s middle age for you.
